Will Bollywood and cinegoers ever get over their voracious appetite for masalathons? Possibly never, which is why we have movie makers doling out masala entertainers every month by dozens. But the big question is, how far does these so called desi entertainers entertain? This is the very question that Prabhu Deva's fresh outing R...Rajkumar raises.

Story
The story of 'R...Rajkumar' orbs around R...Rajkumar (Shahid Kapoor) whose sole purpose in life is to slay a rival drug dealer. In the process, he bumps into Chanda (Sonakshi Sinha), who is the drug dealer's niece. R...Rajkumar falls in love with Chanda and the story complicates with more battering and violence.
Analysis :
While R… Rajkumar has everything that the hoi polloi looks for in atypical mass entertainers, the problem lies in the fact that the storyline is done to death, the screenplay is far from inventive and everything seems conventional. Another reason why the movie fails to impress is the unconvincing acts put forth by the lead cast.
Prabhu Dheva has always excelled in the masala genre and that's the reason why he's labeled the king of entertainers, but a feather-light concept and predictable goings-on act as dampeners. Dialogues too are serviceable, with a few clever lines integrated in the narrative. Pritam delivers a chartbusting score. 'Gandi Baat', 'Saree Ke Fall Sa' and 'Mat Maari' are catchy. Action sequences, though executed well and high on energy, fall in the same mould as the ones we have watched in scores of masala entertainers previously.
Performance :
Shahid Kapoor is plain unimpressive in the movie, even though he tries hard to emulate the easy charm of Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar.Sonakshi Sinha plays the love interest of R...Rajkumar. She pouts and swings her waist like she has done in all her films in her brief career in Bollywood and looks repetitive. Sonu Sood as the typical 'thakur' of Bollywood has a menacing presence. Ashish Vidyarthi as Sonakshi's uncle and the drug dealer plays the role of a typical villian.
Final Word:
To be honest, R...Rajkumar doesn't work. It's Prabhu Deva's worst entertainer so far.
