It is good to feed the infants with mother milk through breast feeding, but in some cases mothers cannot feed their babies with their milk. The disadvantaged women go for purchasing the breast milk to supplement the nutrition level to their babies, and in recent times online stores emerged to sell breast milk with lower cost.

The breast milk purchased online or via internet posing life threats to the babies or children who fed on such contaminated and unsafe milk. As the breast milk costs much cheaper than that of regulated milk banks, the mothers of low and middle class opt this method to feed their babies.

The milk actually should be screened for diseases, such as, hepatitis B and C, HIV and human T cell lymph tropic virus and syphilis, explained the experts.

The defects in this mode of getting breast milk are poor quality of packaging, improper shipping, no pasteurization, contamination with drugs and other substances. Nearly 90 percent of the milk units are carrying bacterial growth.

Healthcare officials should direct the firms that are selling the breast milk online to follow all the precautions and ensure higher quality of milk. Health care workers should also be informed how to check and pack the milk.
