SII To Resume Covishield Supply To COVAX

Serum Institute of India (SII) based in India happens to be the world's largest vaccination manufacturer. Adar Poonawalla revealed that they would resume the supply of the coronavirus vaccine Covishield under the COVAX programme. The Indian government now allowed SII to export 5 million doses of Covishield under the programme of COVAX that is backed by USA, Bangladesh, Nepal, Tajikistan and Mozambique. Nepal will receive the first batch of the Covishield vaccines on November 24th and the deliveries are now delayed.

The first consignment to Nepal will leave for Pune today. After India was shattered due to the second wave of coronavirus, there was a huge shortage for vaccines in the country and the Indian government wanted SII to stop the exports. The supply of vaccines to COVAX will now be resumed after Indian states have enough storage of vaccinations all over. Covishield is the India variant of Oxford University's AstraZeneca that is manufactured by SII in India. The other Indian vaccine is Covaxin that is developed by Bharat Biotech based in Hyderabad. COVAX means Covid-19 Vaccines Globla Access and it led by Gavi, World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI).
